Top 5 Reasons to Have Your Wisdom Teeth Removed

Posted on

Because of a reduced calcium diet, jaws have become too small to allow the successful growth of wisdom teeth. This has, however, not stopped them from sprouting. As your dentist would advise, it is wise to have your wisdom teeth removed.

Here are 5 reasons why you should have a dentist remove your wisdom teeth.

1. More Space for Your Teeth

Wisdom teeth are usually the last to grow. They come after all adult teeth have grown, usually between ages 17 and 25. Because the jaw cannot fit all these teeth, wisdom teeth end up pushing your molars out of place, causing you to have misaligned teeth.

Having them removed will help you avoid having an overcrowded mouth. It also prevents the occurrence of misaligned teeth, which would require orthodontic treatment to rectify.

2. Clean Mouth and Teeth

Wisdom teeth grow at the very end of your jawline and usually do not grow completely. As such, they allow room for the accumulation of plaque in your mouth and tartar. This situation will make it hard for you to clean your teeth.

The inability to clean your teeth thoroughly over the years will result in tooth decay and eventually, you will develop cavities. Having your wisdom teeth removed will reduce the risk of developing cavities.

3. Oral Injuries

Wisdom teeth grow at an angle at the corner of your mouth. Those that turn outwards can cause you to have injuries in your mouth. Those that grow inwards can cause you to injure your tongue.

The wisdom teeth can cause you to have injuries, ulcers and pain in your cheeks and your tongue. Having a dentist remove them can prevent you from having oral injuries.

4. Impaction

Impacted wisdom teeth are those that do not erupt from the gums. If your wisdom teeth are impacted, they may not cause you immediate damage. However, after some time, they may start to decay and rot gradually, resulting in gum disease.

Having them removed early in your life can protect you from a future battling gum disease.

5. Solution to Headaches

You could be suffering from unexplained headaches. If your wisdom teeth have erupted and are causing pressure on your jaws, the pressure can cause headaches.

If you have experienced this symptom knowing that you still haven't removed your wisdom teeth, contact a dentist and have your wisdom teeth removed immediately.

The pain of an unhealthy mouth is one that no one can deny. Ensure you make constant visits to your dentist. Make plans for your wisdom teeth removal for the reasons above and to ensure your mouth remains healthy.
