Good Reasons to Have Your Teeth Whitened

Posted on

Your teeth can discolour for a number of reasons. Perhaps you are overly fond of drinking beverages which can stain your incisors as you consume them? Glasses of red wine, mugs of coffee and even common soft drinks, such as cola, will leave their mark on your teeth over time. There again, some foods can be staining as well. You might eat lots of beetroot, red cabbage or coloured icing sugar which will leave your teeth less white. Perhaps you don't have stained teeth from what you eat at all. Often, staining on teeth occurs from exposure to the nicotine that is present in cigarettes. Whatever the reason for discolouration on tooth enamel, why might you choose to take action to remedy it?

Better Photographs

If you have teeth which are not sparkling white, then you might find that you are one of those people who never smiles when a photo is being taken of them. If every portrait of you or group shot contains an image of you with your mouth shut, then it may well be that you come across as a glum individual – even if this is not the case. By undertaking a teeth whitening programme with your dentist, you will find that you smile more when saying "cheese" and, consequently, enjoy a better image in all subsequent pictures of you.

Greater Confidence

When you have had your teeth whitened, it is highly likely that your self-image will improve a great deal. If you think that the poor colour of your teeth is holding you back in some way, then using teeth whitening products and brushing with greater care with a specialist toothpaste after each meal can make a big difference to your levels of self-confidence. Even years of neglect with teeth staining can be turned around in a matter of a few weeks if you are diligent enough.

Improved Uniformity

Sometimes, whitening your teeth is not about bleaching them all to a new level of whiteness but correcting a couple of discoloured teeth. Even a lone tooth can 'stick out' if it has discoloured from decay when those next to it are brilliantly white. If so, then whitening it will mean that you get a greater match across all of your front-facing teeth. In many cases, people choose to whiten their teeth just to obtain this greater level of uniformity among their set of teeth rather than to simply obtain a whiter smile.
