Why Opt for Implants for Your Dentures?
Conventional dentures present certain problems for people who wear them. Firstly, they can stick to the roof of your mouth via suction which, although it helps to keep them in place, makes eating a less enjoyable experience. Indeed, some people report that it affects the way they chew and even taste their food. There again, conventional dentures can also cause irritation on the gum. Since many false teeth are anchored in some way to a good remaining tooth, they have clips or other forms of attachment which sometimes cause pressure on the soft tissue of the mouth, namely the gum. In addition, some false teeth can embarrassingly slip or drop if they are not fixed firmly in place with adhesives.
All of these factors may mean that you are recommended implant dentures instead. With an implant, you can feel much more confident that your false teeth won't jump around when you speak or eat. You can experience much less oral irritation. Furthermore, implanted dentures may also mean you can start to enjoy your favourite foods in a much more natural way. What are the other pros and cons of implants for false teeth?
Cons
If you have implants, then this will usually mean a surgical procedure is required. Most dental implants require a drill to get into the jawbone of the patient concerned so that pegs can be anchored there onto which the dentures will subsequently sit. This means that implants are unsuited to people who do not react well to anaesthetics. Because it is an in-depth procedure, implanting can also be more expensive than having conventional false teeth made for you. Finally, if your jawbone has been injured or you don't have a strong enough one, then you may need a bone graft before implants can be attempted at all.
Pros
Despite the drawbacks, implants for false teeth are suited to most sorts of patients. Because they are anchored well, you will have a denture set that resembles your natural teeth much more closely. Indeed, if you have no natural teeth left, this is the best option because you may not be able to attach your dentures firmly in any other way. Despite the aforementioned cost, implants can be a better value because they are more likely to last for a long time with fewer problems down the line. Finally, caring for an implant is quite easy and no more time-consuming than looking after healthy teeth.
